Reflection: An unforgettable character

I was talking with my good friend Alejandro Molla, a psychologist and partner of the school year, students of cinema with creative concerns, the writers and creators of stories for the big and small screen should not, when visiting bookstores , start with the section on the film, but by psychology. This is what at least I do when I visit, as I find extremely useful in the face of my work.

That's where the characters are then govern the plots of the stories. Section of psychopathology, such as Melvin Udall is the Best ... impossible , or Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs . But also find an extensive tour of marital problems, family and community, how they arise, why they occur and how they are solved, an explanation for phobias, depression, and different personality types. Fears, deficiencies, excesses, a catalog enormously useful when you sit down to write.

Anthony Hopkins en Hannibal Lecter en El silencio de los corderos

Many times, a story deflates not have good characters, or because they are not well defined. Sometimes developers rely too much on the beauty of the ordinary, if that is what is fed up of people, who go to the theater run, precisely normal. Introduce a differentiator, endow your character a different profile, a distorted personality, relationships marked by trauma; regalémosle a tic, a hobby, some fears. That will be the difference that, when the film ends, whether or not remembered.

So, again, Psychology section, do not forget, and if you have not done so, I invite you to do. I am convinced that it will be helpful. Even if you dedicate to the movies.

Luck Heath

brokeback-mountain

I've never been good at football pools, the only test that I passed in my life was to lead, and went to the second. When I get four choices almost always choose right. I have no idea what will happen tonight at the Oscars ceremony, I still have to see many films involved, which will soon, and I have things as clear as was the day of Goya . So I get quite comfortable with this ceremony, that whatever has to happen. 'Even Penelope? Why not.

Of course, I would like Heath Ledger premiasen. His portrayal of Joker deserves it, and it still owes you not given by Brokeback Mountain . Hopefully it will be the crowning of a career interrupted by bad luck. But hey, guess this would have no merit, is the favorite.

Do not see it. I start too late and tomorrow I have to seize the day. In the coming weeks take the opportunity to see four or five key films of the year that I have left to do. Paradoxical situation filmmaking leaves you little time to see movies. The return of Elijah Urquijo, my baby, absorbs all my attention. Currently: distribution. And the exciting feeling delve back into history along with someone who I deeply admire and talk soon.

Luck, Heath.

The cafes serving now manages the money

By now many have heard about the recent attack of cholera Christian Bale suffered during a shoot. The reproach in question was that, apparently, the cinematographer of the film burst through the bottom of the set while Christian Bale rehearsing. The actor flew into a rage and what happened there so you can hear here . Oh, and not a joke as the Greater Wyoming.

A taxi is an experience of great intensity, much is at stake, the work of many people, sometimes hundreds, with the cost involved, it must be perfectly synchronized and everyone also needs to take a vital space out.

Unfortunately, these attacks of rage are not uncommon. I myself have lived many, indeed, on occasion I have been myself one who has been involved. Not to be proud, on the contrary, I have learned that nothing good is obtained from them. They are an easy resource to channel tensions, stress, and in most cases, frustrations, but they are very offensive, harmful generate an image of yourself and decrease the productivity of the whole team in general.

There is a teaching of gold in this profession that dictates that anyone who serves you coffee today, probably tomorrow to handle money. Right. This profession requires a lot of perspective. Be kind to everyone, because life is full of surprises.

You may want to invade Poland feel when you see across the bottom of the decorated cinematographer lights while you're tweaking rehearsing, but that does not give you any right to insult cruelly harassing or threatening anyone. Do you mind? Let's talk to the director, producer, find a solution. It is normal to get upset, but that was to become a kind of neurotic and runaway monster there is a stretch.

Christian Bale should know by now that a movie is not just him but many work in collaboration with each other. In his rebuke speaks of "my" sequence of "your" lights. It is not "your" lights, are "the" lights will illuminate "the" sequence. And that's the mistake of many and that I believe has committed this actor, forget that there are hundreds of professionals behind arropándole, precisely so that their interpretation is raised to the status it deserves. Even when very high it is easy to lose perspective: it is not just a movie, not about saving the world from any alien attack.

How about you the rage of Christian Bale? You think it's justified?
